We should all have a passion or hobby. Something that makes us happy, gets us excited and motivates us. It doesn't matter how big or small; mountain climbing or stamp collecting; it just needs to be something that takes us away from the day to day stuff.
What's your passion? What makes you tick?
The girl in this photo (Scarlet) has a passion for #modelling and the #fashion industry.
My passion is #portraitphotography and I have worked with Scarlet on many occasions. She is clearly very comfortable in front of the camera and loves dressing up, which makes for some fantastic photographs! At the moment I'm using a #vintagelens with my #PentaxK3 #camera body and I'm absolutely loving the results. The focus is very soft and the images have a vintage feel without me doing anything to them.
On the day of this particular shoot with Scarlet there was a lot of summer traffic around so I suggested we stay local and just hunt around for some interesting backdrops. I very rarely plan shoots (apart from having some idea of the location) as they are unique to the person I am photographing on the day.
Scarlet brought three of her own stylish outfits giving us a fantastic range of images and we didn't struggle for backdrops! You could argue that her interest in fashion is the reason she likes to dress up so much but actually she's thinking about the photographs we can create. And this is how I like my shoots to work. They are very much a two way thing and meant to be fun for all involved. I don't use much equipment (too much to think about) and I mostly like to use natural light. It can be challenging but I think the end result is more honest and natural.
So natural 'stripped back' photography is what I like to produce. Yes, there is an element of posing but I like to get the real person, the soul inside.
Both my methods and the results, are proving to have a positive effect on the people I shoot as well as on me and I have decided to concentrate my work on helping people with #confidence issues and low #selfesteem. It's a hard one to market because I'm selling the experience of the shoot rather than the photographs and I think word of mouth is going to be the most effective way, but it will take time.
Thanks for reading!
